Madam Juncture
aka "Ms.Take"

FINE BAYOU? FINE BY-ME!

SUPRA-SEGMENTAL POWER

Madame Juncture was raised in the Louisiana Bayou. Her Cajun roots run deep and her juncture speaks volumes.

ACTUAL DEFINITION

Commonly called “vocal punctuation,” juncture includes the use of intonation, pausing, and other vocal effects to express grammatical divisions. Juncture is also used to distinguish between similar words; for example, night rate vs. nitrate.

EXAMPLE

Some people insert a pregnant-pauses after every word.

Nitrate is a chemical in salt and the night rate at a motel is cheaper than the day rate.
